In between the beach shack and temporary cliffside home, I befriended a wolf. It only took one bone. I haven't named it yet.

I'm also not ready to take on the responsibility of caring for it as I adventure around just yet, so I'm having it guard the beach shack for now.

South from the beach shack was this lava pool, and a poor tree that generated too close to it, so it caught on fire. Nearby was also a cave that contained a zombie spawner (I forgot to take a screenshot sadly) and three diamonds (you might have seen them in my hotbar in the previous post). Speaking of which, precious resources like iron are much harder to come by than in newer versions of the game, which I like.

Across the beach shack is a cliff which I've decided to make my first home. A new, more permanent home. A long time ago, I watched caliform's playthrough of Minecraft, and I thought his cliffside house was the coolest thing ever, and till this day it still lives in my head rent free.

A few years later, I got interested in design and started following a bunch of designers online, one of them being Sebastiaan de With, who you might know from Halide. He quickly became someone whose works I followed with quite a bit of interest. Around 2014, one of his reddit posts went viral and he posted about it. I saw that his username was caliform on reddit. I didn't believe it at first, but I scrolled through his history and indeed Sebastiaan is the same caliform whose Minecraft videos I watched growing up. It's funny how the world works sometimes.

I think the screenshot above really captures the charm of the old lighting in this version of Minecraft. It's strangely cozy.

Progress is going swimmingly. Though I've had to dig out a bunch of sand, and bone meal a bunch of trees to get all the wood and glass. The house is a bit drab and flat at the moment, but once I start filling the space up it'll help make it look more lived in, hopefully.

Also, I probably need to use a wider variety of blocks, like raw wood and sand.

I'm also starting a farm at the top of the cliff.
