Finally managed to fill out my entire farm. Don't think I'll need to expand it anytime soon, though... this is enough to produce a steady supply of bread, alongside pork chops for keeping me healthy.

I started to renovate the floating platform underneath my house to use a pool instead for me to drop into instead of having to ride the waterfall down slowly.

Previously, I dug out a spiraling stairwell in the side of the cliff (you can kind of make it out in the image above, it's beyond the opening in the stone wall), so that's now the primary way to get back up quickly.

The sunset.

After playing the game for a few days now, I want to call out some more things that surprised me about this specific version of Minecraft:

  1. A lot of nice Q.O.L. changes that I either took for granted or had just become muscle memory are not present. Stuff like dragging blocks in the crafting interface to quickly craft things, shift-clicking on coal or ores to deposit them in their respective slots in the furnace, stacking food... these are all missing.
  2. Skeletons fire their arrows very quickly in this version. If you try taking cover and subsequently peek out, it feels like once a pixel of your player character becomes visible to the skeleton, they can instantly lock on and fire an arrow to harm you. Sometimes it feels a bit unfair. But under normal circumstances, you'll still be able to dodge their arrows, especially in open spaces, since the actual speed of the arrows aren't that high.
  3. Redstone takes forever to mine.
  4. Wooden slabs have the properties of stone.

Also I started watching this series about something called the "404 Challenge" on Minecraft. The premise is that you start with a set seed and have one day to collect resources on land before descending into a sinkhole (i.e. a huge, sprawling cave) to survive. No torches and other such restrictions are also tacked onto the challenge.

Watching these videos, I'm reminded of how chill they used to be.
